BarrJoinery work to exacting standards and to BWF regulations. Close consideration is given to the technical and aesthetic qualities of raw materials, essential to the finished quality of every piece of work. Using a wide range of carefully sourced products and components, from trusted suppliers, ensures the perfect balance of materials for each commission.

Oak remains the BarrJoinery decorative hardwood of choice, where the finished product is stained rather than painted. Hard wearing and with its unmistakable classic aesthetic. Oak has traditionally been used for external joinery in Britain for many centuries and will continue to be used for years to come.

Acetylated timber has become a favoured alternative for external joinery. Outstandingly stable, durable, rot resistant and engineered to prolong the life of its chosen finish, it’s properties lend themselves to life in the British weather. The chemical process of acetylation structurally alters the timber at a molecular level, rendering it incapable of being altered by moisture. Click here for more information on 'Accoya' timber:

Materials for interior joinery are guided by their own set of parameters. Not exposed to the elements, timber used internally does not require additional protection. Aesthetics, structure, functionality and durability (in terms of use rather than environment) are essential considerations. Cabinetry is both trend and tradition led and therefore each project is completely unique. As part of the design process our project managers will be able to suggest the most appropriate timber product for your commission.

Glass specification varies greatly from project to project, from contemporary styles to a heritage/listed requirements, in line with British safety guidelines and building regulation standards. BarrJoinery use the same trusted local supplier for the majority of their glass requirements. BarrJoinery glazing is specified to suit each installation, taking into consideration window design, solar factors, conduction and airflow to ensure functionality without aesthetic compromise. Security is also a major consideration for all external joinery products. The most commonly used BarrJoinery glazing system is a 24mm thick double-glazed unit with argon filled toughened glass.

The fixings used for any joinery and cabinetry piece are pivotal to the finished product, from an visual and functional perspective.
